Postsecondary Education and ADHD
Purpose:
The Postsecondary Education and ADHD SIG will consist of allied mental health professionals and trainees who share an interest in improving the quality of care for students in postsecondary programs with ADHD through the advancement and dissemination of research and evidence-based practices.
Statement of Scope:
- Foster open, regular, interactive communications among professionals and trainees sharing an interest in students in postsecondary programs with ADHD, to facilitate a sense of community and connection.
- Provide a forum to share information on current research developments and practice innovations related to postsecondary students with ADHD.
- Network with non-APSARD members who are leaders in fields related to postsecondary student mental health, with a particular focus on ADHD.

ADHD & Substance Use Disorder
Purpose:
To provide an interactive forum among members of APSARD to learn and discuss areas related to the overlap of ADHD and substance use, including but not limited to nicotine and other substance use/misuse / use disorders, prescription medication nonmedical use and diversion, prevention, screening, mechanisms, and interventions related to ADHD and SUD
Statement of Scope:
- Disseminate and discuss new and archived research and clinical findings related to the diagnosis and care of individuals with ADHD and substance use/use disorders
- Organize an educational presentation related to substance use/disorders in individuals with ADHD
- Provide an interactive forum to discuss the ‘safe’ use of stimulants and other controlled substances in individuals with ADHD

Pediatrics-Psychiatry-Psychology Interface
Purpose:
ADHD affects an estimated 7.2% of children. Due to the significant shortage of child and adolescent psychiatrists and other mental health professionals such as psychologists in the United States, the burden of diagnosis and treatment is increasingly falling on pediatricians and other primary care providers. This SIG aims to position APSARD as a national resource for pediatricians and other primary care providers who wish to learn more about the disorder, implement current evidence-based treatment strategies, and work collaboratively with psychiatrist and psychologist colleagues in mental healthcare.
Statement of Scope:
- Develop annual CME courses and special presentations at the APSARD national meeting focused on diagnosis and treatment of ADHD in the pediatric medical home.
- Build partnerships with the AAP and other national primary care organizations.
- Recruit pediatricians and other primary care physicians into ASPARD’s membership.

Women & Girls with ADHD
Purpose:
The Special Interest Group on Women and Girls will support APSARD’s mission through the study and dissemination of the most current evidence-based research and clinical practice, and thereby contributing to APSARD’s leadership role in shaping the field’s understanding of the issues of females with ADHD.
Statement of Scope:
- The SIG will consist of an interdisciplinary group of mental health experts, diverse in identity and experience, who share a passion for expanding our understanding of females with ADHD across the lifespan.
- The SIG will provide a base for scholarly pursuits in research, practice, teaching, and advocacy, working towards a consensus on how best to address this underserved population. The group will meet quarterly to share resources, plan educational activities, and identify opportunities to work collaboratively with other SIGs.
- The SIG will serve as an inclusive forum for the open exchange of ideas on topics related to the special needs of this population. Members will be encouraged to pursue particular areas of interest via subcommittees.

Technology & ADHD
Purpose:
The Technology SIG will serve to engage APSARD members in the sharing of best practices of the use of technology in clinical practice through open discussions, collaboration, educational events, and allowing individual members to actively share their own clinical processes. The group will work to showcase the works of individual members and to provide exposure to current and emerging technologies that may have benefit for APSARD members and the patients/communities that we serve.
Statement of Scope:
- Engage APSARD Members in sharing/showcasing their own use of technology in clinical practice.
- Provide a forum for ongoing discussion, engagement and member connections outside of the annual meetings.
- Showcase emerging technologies that may have benefit for those with or who work with ADHD and related disorders.
